What is Eye Movement Desentisization and Reprocessing Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder. It was developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980’s and has been shown to be effective reducing or eliminating symptom severity for PTSD by targeting problematic memories, thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and physical sensations in a way that allows the brain to process and resolve these distressing experiences. This short video is a good brief overview. For more information, check out EMDR International Association Home | EMDR Practitioners (emdria.org). At Oakhill, we have several therapists who are trained in EMDR. If this is something you’re interested to discuss, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-665-9033.
